What Shampoo is Good for Huskies?

by Casey Havenor

Siberian Huskies have many different colors and coat styles such as pure white, black, agouti, red, copper, wolf grey and grey. Generally, the best shampoo for a Siberian is with ingredients that can keep their coat and skin healthy, plus deodorizes them. We done the research and found some shampoo products that have good reviews from Siberian Husky owners:

What shampoo is good for Huskies?

Different types of dog shampoos are good and applicable to different Husky conditions. Huskies are generally clean but they also need to be maintained once in a while with good shampoos to avoid skin and coat problems. Preferably, we recommend shampoos with the ingredients below:

  1. OATMEAL

Oatmeal has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that help to treat dry skin and remove dead skin cells. It helps soothe itching because it normalizes the skin’s PH level.

  2. ALOE VERA

Aloe vera has an antiviral, antibacterial properties, and a type of protein which contains 18 of the 20 amino acids found in the human body.

  3. TEA TREE OIL

Tea tree oil contains a chemical called terpenes that makes the oil effective against bacteria and fungi.

  4. OMEGA 3 AND OMEGA 6

Omega 3 and Omega 6 are fatty acids that are vital for your husky’s shiny and nice coat. They can also relieve skin disorders for a healthier coat.

You may check the above ingredients before you purchase a dog shampoo for your Husky. Below are the shampoos you may find helpful for your dog:

Skin Care Shampoos

Siberian Huskies may suffer from a wide range of skin issues if they are not maintained properly. If skin issues occur, you may change their diet (they may be allergic to some of their foods you give) and pick the proper shampoo. When picking, you may want to check the one with more natural ingredients, such as aloe vera or green tea extract, over chemical-based ones.

4-Legger Organic, Hypo-Allergenic, Lemongrass & Aloe Dog Shampoo

  • Gently cleanses moisturizes, conditions, and softens Siberian’s coat without stripping natural skin and coat oils.
  • 100% biodegradable, cruelty-free, vegan and gluten-free
  • Free from any synthetic preservatives

Deshedding

Siberian Husky shedding is common, as a breed they tend to shed two times in a year. These are in the winter and the spring. If you notice your husky is shedding too much, the deshedding shampoo may help lower it.

Furminator DeShedding Ultra Premium

  • Reduces excessive shedding by reducing the undercoat
  • No parabens or chemical dyes
  • Enriched with Omega 3 & 6 Fatty Acids
  • With Calendula and Papaya Leaf extract

Maintenance Shampoo

One of the criteria for judging Huskies is their coats. Huskies' coats must be shiny, healthy, and full of color.

Christ Christensen White on White Shampoo

  • Best for white huskies
  • Removes yellow stains
  • Contain no bleaching agents or caustic chemicals
  • Makes coat shinier

Anti-itch Shampoo

Skin itchiness is one of the skin problems a Husky can have. This may get from the wrong diet, food allergy, parasites, and not thorough grooming routines. If you suspect your Husky’s food is the culprit you may want to change its food. But if you suspect it may be because of common parasites, you may want to use anti-itch shampoo or medicated shampoo. Not thorough grooming (when the coat is not dried well) may also be the cause.

Buddy Wash Original Lavender & Mint Dog Shampoo

  • Cleans and moisturizes
  • With natural oils and herbs like lavender, mint, and bergamot
  • Good for sensitive skin

Final Thoughts

Siberian Huskies are naturally clean dogs. Because of their two layers of coats, bathing at least once a week or every 6 weeks is fine. You may want to use a suitable shampoo according to their coat and skin condition. If their skin is fine, you may want to use a skin shampoo, but if they have a skin problem you may want to use anti-itching or medicated shampoo. Lastly, you may not want to forget to blow them dry for shinier, healthier, and skin-problem free skin.
